In 2016 an MPs’ report revealed that 17 million of us in the UK have poor signal at home / business premises, and there are currently over 500 blackspots within the country, where coverage is non-existent. The issue of poor mobile coverage in the UK is one we have almost all experienced, but what are the reasons behind it, and more importantly, what’s the solution?
A huge factor is the refusal of the mobile phone giants to allow users to switch networks in areas of poor coverage. This solution, known as domestic roaming, was suggested back in June of 2014 by the Culture Secretary, Sajid Javid. He advocated a system that would allow UK mobiles to switch networks in areas where a provider is unable to give customers a signal.
The bottom line appears to be that mobile operators’ opposition to this stems from the costly processes that will make this possible. To effectively implement domestic roaming in the UK, a great deal of time and resources would be required – the cost of which would inevitably fall on the end user.
So is there another solution? The simple answer, is yes. Multi-network sim cards provide the user with the ability to switch between networks when their current provider is unable to provide signal. This solution is available to you and your business today – Find out more here.
